GENERAL: Works as an automotive mechanic; does related work as required. Under general supervision of a Lead Mechanic, performs a variety of automotive and other small engine repair and machinist tasks requiring a thorough knowledge of the trade. Supervision may occasionally be exercised over the work of laborers.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Either:

  • Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma including or supplemented by the completion of an automotive repair or auto body and repair course and four (4) years experience as an automotive mechanic or auto body repair.

  • Satisfactory completion of 30 credits at a college or university* in Automotive Mechanics, Automotive Technology or a closely related field may be substituted on a year for year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years of the work experience as described above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (ClassB) valid in New York State prior to the end of the probationary period to attain permanent status.

Possession of two of the following NIASE (or approved equal) certifications: a) alternate fuels b) school bus c) advanced series d) exhaust systems (specialty test) e) engine machinist f) truck equipment and in addition possession of NIASE (or approved equal) certification in either: a) auto/light truck or b) medium/heavy truck. OR satisfactory completion of BOCES courses: Fundamental Engine Electronics Training, Systems Training in Emission and Performance, Computerized Automotive Performance Systems and Fuel Injection Systems Training.

  4. Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety.

Duties:
* At the direction of the Director of Facilities, manage and maintain buildings and infrastructure,
